This year’s Young Leader rally was hosted at Ferny Crofts Scout Activity Centre, full to the brim with engaging learning sessions as well as adventurous activities.

“The Young leader Rally was a fantastic event with over 100 young leaders. This year we had 10 activity groups, that participated in many great activities, from crate stacking to archery to zip wire. There was something for everyone. In addition to this, everyone took part in all our educational sessions.”

Adam, Hampshire Explorer Ambassador and Young Leader Co-ordinator.

This event gave young people the opportunity to learn about adapting activities, mental health and wellbeing, the opportunities in Scouts for over 18's, #YouShape, Earth Tribe and community impact.

There were knowledgeable leaders across the rally who helped support the young people during these sessions, able to answer any and all question and giving a brilliant insight into what it means to be a leader. This was particularly beneficial for new Young Leaders, who are just getting to grips with things.

“As an Explorer who took part in Young Leader Rally, I love the sense of learning and togetherness it brings”

Charlie, 16-year-old Explorer from Blackwater Valley District.

These sessions aren’t all that the Young Leader Rally is about. It’s also a social camp where like-minded young people can get together and have fun. Some activities supported this such as, an evening disco, a campfire, icebreakers, and wide games. Not forgetting the adventurous activities too, like archery, climbing, zip line, fire lighting and crate stacking.

“The weekend was full of activities and there was never a dull moment. My favourite part was reaching the top of the crate stack and singing round the campfire, I can’t wait for next year!”

Libby, Young Leader and Hampshire Explorer Ambassador.

So what was my takeaway from the event?

I may have been a Young Leader for nearly 3 years, but this was my first rally. I had the most amazing time and really felt like I learnt a lot. It was nice to see how other Young Leaders connected with the material, as there were people in my group who had been a Young Leader for years, and people who were new to it, it would’ve been a different experience for everyone. But, I came away feeling that everyone had leant something new and got to make new friends and good memories.

What makes the Rally extraordinary was it is truly shaped by the Young Leaders themselves:

"It is great to see Young Leaders organising such a fantastic peer led event, giving nearly 100 participants the chance to learn more skills and take part in activities."

Mike Baxter, Lead volunteer for Explorer Scouts

I would highly recommend going to Young Leader Rally because it’s the perfect combination of fun and learning. It offers young people so much support to become brilliant leaders, in the future, and complete their goals in scouting. We’ re all looking forward to the 2025 Rally!
